“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible” – Walt Disney
You’ve likely heard that SBI is a challenging experience. That’s certainly true. A summer with SBI involves long hours in the classroom, demanding courses with a steep learning curve, and a group project that will put your new-found skills to the test. In all likelihood, there will come a point (in my experience, it’s often in the wee hours of the morning before an FMR exam or a CE deliverable) where the burden seems overwhelming and the task impossible.
The thing is, it’s not impossible. You’ll be spending those long hours in the classroom developing the skills and knowledge base you’ll need to succeed. Additionally, you’ll have the support of your teachers and classmates, both inside and outside the classroom; in SBI, you’ll have the unique experience of being in a community of people pursuing the same objectives and facing the same challenges that you are. You’ll build lasting bonds with some of your new colleagues. At the same time, you’ll flex your creative muscles by designing a solution to a real-world marketing problem from the ground up.
The deadline to apply for SBI 2014 is tomorrow, so if you’ve been sitting on the fence there’s still time to apply. If you are interested in joining the program but think it will be too much for you, take heart; plenty of people have gone into the program with those same doubts and left with a business minor. Go ahead and do the impossible; you just might enjoy it.
