Ambassador Profile: Nick Dowdle

Standard

This past Summer I enrolled myself in Villanova’s Summer Business Institute, and it was one of the best life decisions I’ve ever made. I had always thought that the whole “invest in your future” thing was a little corny, but the skills and knowledge I gained at SBI have convinced me that the program is one of the best investments you can make. The classes I took, the information I learned, and the people I met all contributed to ensuring my success in the future.

I’m an Economics major in the Arts school, so the material I learned had a good deal of overlap that helped to reinforce the Economics I already knew. But at the same time, I learned a great deal of new material that will help me in the real world after I graduate. SBI taught me everything from what stocks will get you a good return on investment, to how products are effectively marketed to a consumer.

If I had to say one thing about students who are successful at SBI, it would be that they have a drive to gain knowledge. That’s one of the things I love about SBI. There is a love of learning present in the classrooms. If you want to be successful at SBI you have to have within yourself the drive that I feel most Villanovans have. That is the willpower to effectively and actively use your skills and talents to seek out and acquire new information in order to ensure your success in future endeavors. In that sense, students enrolled in the SBI program really do “invest in their future.”

I am very fortunate that I was able to attend the Summer Business  Institute last summer. It was one of the best experiences of my life. The format of the Summer Business Institute is designed to give participants the most value. Because of the condensed nature of SBI, the material was challenging, however lasting relationships were being fostered.

I have had the pleasure of meeting numerous brilliant and ambitious future professionals through this experience. It gave me the experience to explore new worldly perspectives, outside of economics. I was able to learn valuable skills outside of my major which will be vital for success in the professional world.

I chose to become an SBI Ambassador because of everything that the Summer Business Institute has done for me. It has been a fulfilling and enlightening experience. The Summer Business Institute has shaped me into a more knowledgeable and marketable professional. Everyone should have the opportunity to participate in a program like the Summer Business Institute and one of the reasons why I became an SBI Ambassador is so that I can tell others about this incredible opportunity.
