Motivational Monday: Make-A-Wish

Standard

Happy Monday friends!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend it was the magical Candidate’s Day weekend here at Villanova aka the campus was buzzing with so many potential baby wildkittens. I had the honor of being on the Planning Committee so I am still recovering from that somewhat rough 3:00 am wake up on Saturday. Not ideal, but anything for future Villanovans.

Today’s post is about another organization that I have a lot of involvement with. My sorority’s philanthropy is Make -A-Wish, an incredible organization that grants wishes to terminally ill children all across the world. There are five types of wishes that a child can make. First, I wish to have, where they can ask for any thing they desire. Next, I wish to go, where children can wish to go anywhere like Disney, or a shopping spree at the mall. Third, is I wish to be- one child actually wished to be BatBoy for a day. Fourth, is I wish to meet and lastly there is I wish to give which is actually the newest wish a child can make. The organization is amazing about making children’s dreams come true and I am so happy that I have gotten to help plan our fundraiser for it this semester. That’s right we are having a dodgeball tournament this Friday in support of Make-A-Wish and I encourage everyone to come out and support the awesome cause!

This video here is one of my favorites- it truly encapsulates everything that Make-A-Wish can do. I hope it inspires you to do good things for people and do everything you can to make someone’s wish come true. Wheteher you support Make-A-Wish or another foundation, I hope this motivates you to give back and be the most amazing you that you can be.

Happy Monday! We are three days from Easter break which is motivation enough to get through this week so I have decided to not make a post today.

Just kidding! We could always use more motivation am I right? Today’s post is an assessment (don’t sweat I promise it’s not for a grade) that determines your  motivational style. I  found it helpful because it addresses how you are more likely to be motivated and how to implement that in your life. There are three types of motivational styles- goal oriented, relationship oriented, and learning oriented. Goal oriented focuses on a style  in which people reach for their goals through a direct and obvious route. Relationship oriented motivation is a kind of motivation where people get a lot out of working with other people. Lastly, learning oriented motivations focuses on the practice of learning, itself, that motivates people. I thought this was interesting identifying what type of motivation I get the most out of and how that affects things I do- so have fun with it and I hope you have a great rest of your week!

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break. If you are anything like me you are just starting to get out of the food coma you’ve been in since Thursday.

Since we are at that time of the year where finals are all too quickly approaching and the holiday season puts us in a great, but distracting-us-from-studying mood, we need some motivation to get through this week. And there is no one better at motivating than Kid President. This is his guide to being awesome as “life is too short to not be awesome”. Kid President has a short list of ways to be awesome and the rest are in his book. It’s a cute short video and I hope it gives you the motivation to be awesome this week.

Happy Rainy Monday Everyone! Hope your week has been off to a solid start so far!

So this weekend was a movie weekend for me- it was the first weekend I have had nothing to do so I did absolutely nothing. Among my nothingness, I watched tons of movies and my favorite movie I watched (and favorite movie of all time) was Miracle. Obviously we all know the ridiculously iconic speech, but I though it could be good motivation for this week.

One of my favorite lines from the speech is when coach Herb Brooks opens his speech to his team with “great moments are born from great opportunity.” While he was speaking about the fact that his team had earned their path for the Olympic Gold medal, I think it is an incredibly applicable line to everything, really. I don’t want to get too cheesy on you guys, but being students at Villanova is that great opportunity that we have been given and it is up to us to make great moments out of that. So enjoy this throwback and hopefully this gives you motivation for this week to make some great moments.

Happy Monday Everyone!!

This past weekend was Villanova’s Special Olympics Fall Festival as I mentioned on Friday. I was fortunate enough to be a part of committee this past year and helped plan the weekend for the athletes.

I can say that nothing motivates me more than their strength and determination. They are some of the most positive people I have ever met and inspire me to each and everyday.

This year, I was a part of the awards committee and we planned and executed the awards ceremonies for the athletes. One of the other assistants with me made this amazing video of the athletes that really shows how truly wonderful and talented they all are. So I hope the athletes motivate you this week to be a more patient and accepting person as that is something we could all work on.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloweekend!

I found this video today and it made me really happy. Kid President, undeniably, has his life more together than I do at 20. That being said, he offers really cute and relatable insight into the little things in life. This video is about 20 things that we should say more often. While some, like offering a corn dog, might be a little bizarre, the general idea of taking the time to say something thoughtful is one that we all should try to do more often. All too frequently, we don’t realize the impact that the little things we say can have on people. So I challenge you to say at least one of these things to someone this week- bonus points if it’s the corn dog one.

Q: What did the football coach say to the broken vending machine?

A: “Give me my quarterback!”
